Liverpool’s Shocking Selection for Klopp’s Successor Post 23/24 Season
(PLO) – Expert Jamie Carragher believes that Liverpool should opt for Thomas Tuchel, former Chelsea manager, instead of Arne Slot as they seek a replacement for Jurgen Klopp this summer.
Feyenoord’s head coach, Arne Slot, has surprisingly emerged as a top contender to succeed Klopp at Anfield. The Dutch maestro has garnered much praise in his homeland over the past three years at De Kuip. However, for a fresh face in Europe to catch Liverpool’s eye is unexpected.
Arne Slot led the Rotterdam side to the Dutch title last season and boasts 93 victories in 144 matches, employing an attractive attacking style of play. Recently, HITC reported that Liverpool’s sporting director, Michael Edwards, is highly impressed with Slot, who has never coached a club outside of the Dutch league.
Arne Slot’s allure has been growing with each season, but Liverpool’s former stalwart, football pundit Carragher, isn’t convinced he’s the right fit for Anfield. Carragher feels that only Tuchel has the capability to challenge Manchester City’s seasoned manager, Pep Guardiola, in the battle for supremacy in England and Europe.
The former Liverpool captain has made a suggestion to the current leadership at Anfield during his appearance on The Overlap: “Tuchel has overcome Pep. I’m just thinking about a manager standing on the touchline with those precious qualities. If you’re a Liverpool fan, you’d feel more assured looking at Tuchel and thinking, ‘Only Tuchel can take on Pep.'”
It’s worth noting that Tuchel will depart Bayern Munich at the end of this season after failing to secure the Bundesliga title. He leaves Allianz Arena with a desire to lead Bayern to the Champions League final, facing off against Real Madrid.
Acknowledging Tuchel’s work, Carragher has also reflected on his unsuccessful stint at Chelsea: “If he makes it to the final, Tuchel will have participated in three out of the last six Champions League finals. Right now, I know things weren’t perfect at Bayern Munich, but the work Tuchel has done at Chelsea, facing Klopp’s Liverpool and Pep’s Man City, he’s got something special.”
Tuchel managed Chelsea for nearly two years, leading the team to clinch the 2021 Champions League title. He secured 63 victories in 100 matches but was surprisingly sacked by the club’s new leadership in September 2022.
Amorim Turns Down Liverpool
Sporting CP’s coach, Ruben Amorim, is another candidate to replace Klopp this summer. The Portuguese tactician has made a strong impression at the Jose Alvalade stadium, with 146 wins in 208 matches, and his team is on track to secure domestic double. Amorim is focused on guiding Sporting to their second Primeira Liga title and the national cup. He still has two years left on his contract with the Liga Bwin giants.
TEAMTalk reported that Amorim held talks with Liverpool regarding replacing Klopp but declined the job due to concerns about succeeding the German legend.
Amorim also met with West Ham United regarding the possibility of replacing coach David Moyes at the London stadium. However, Chelsea could also be a destination for Amorim, and he is eager to speak with the club’s leadership in west London. The uncertainty surrounding Mauricio Pochettino’s future at Stamford Bridge after an unsuccessful debut season is the reason for this speculation.
