Rajon Rondo emerged as one of the NBA’s most outstanding players in recent years, showcasing remarkable creativity and impressive defensive skills that propelled the Boston Celtics to clinch the NBA championship in the 2007-2008 season—the most recent title for the Celtics to date.

Over the course of 12 years, despite not being at the peak of his powers, Rondo’s experience and class contributed significantly to the Los Angeles Lakers’ acquisition of their 17th championship in franchise history.

Rondo’s 105 assists during the 2020 playoffs positioned him as the player with the most assists off the bench in playoff series since 1971, surpassing Manu Ginobili’s record of 95 assists in 2014.

Throughout his illustrious 18-year career, Rondo earned four NBA All-Star selections from 2010 to 2013, four All-Defensive Team selections from 2009 to 2012, and led the league in assists three times (2012, 2013, and 2016), while also topping the steals leaderboard in the 2009-2010 season.

After enjoying considerable success with the Boston Celtics, Rondo embarked on stints with the Dallas Mavericks, Sacramento Kings, Chicago Bulls, New Orleans Pelicans, Los Angeles Lakers, Atlanta Hawks, and finally the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Rondo’s final game on April 11, 2022, saw him contribute 6 points, 4 rebounds, and 13 assists in the Cavaliers’ 133-115 victory over the Milwaukee Bucks. Nearly two years later, Rondo officially announced his retirement, bringing an end to a remarkable career.

Rajon Rondo’s retirement marks the conclusion of an era in NBA history—a career characterized by brilliance, resilience, and a relentless pursuit of excellence. As Rondo bids farewell to the hardwood, his legacy as one of the game’s most innovative playmakers and tenacious defenders will endure for generations to come.
